چکیده

Abstract Key message Beech and pine respond differently to climate change. June precipitation is of particular influence for beech, February/March temperature pine. Climate warming exposes forests increasing abiotic stress, demanding difficult silvicultural decisions about the right choice future timber species. Scots ( Pinus sylvestris ) European beech Fagus sylvatica are major species in North German Lowlands, which have suffered from recent hot droughts, thus raising concern their suitability production region. We investigated sensitivity tree growth long-term trends ten paired along a gradient Lowlands with aim compare species’ search species-specific climatic thresholds. In majority stands, basal area increment (BAI) has lost its positive trend since 1980s or declined then, while BAI continually increased. Long-term change study region more important determinant than amount MAP, largely dependent on warmth February/March. Climate warming will reduce growth and survival of Scots pine except in the far north.

Tree growth and survival were assessed in 283 populations of Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) originating from a broad geographic range and grown at 90 common-garden experimental sites across Europe, and in 101 populations grown at 14 sites in North America. Growth and survival were analysed in response to climatic transfer distance, the difference in mean annual temperature (MAT) between the s...

PATMOS-x Cloud Climate Record Trend Sensitivity to Reanalysis Products

Continuous satellite-derived cloud records now extend over three decades, and are increasingly used for climate applications. Certain applications, such as trend detection, require a clear understanding of uncertainty as it relates to establishing statistical significance. The use of reanalysis products as sources of ancillary data could be construed as one such source of uncertainty, as there ...

Growing sensitivity of maize to water scarcity under climate change

Climate change can reduce crop yields and thereby threaten food security. The current measures used to adapt to climate change involve avoiding crops yield decrease, however, the limitations of such measures due to water and other resources scarcity have not been well understood. Here, we quantify how the sensitivity of maize to water availability has increased because of the shift toward longe...
